Composition in THE INNOCENTS by Jack Clayton

In The Innocents, adapted from Henry James’s novella The Turn of the Screw, Miss Giddens, the governess, is looking after two children, Miles and Flora. They begin a game of hide-and-seek in the large mansion where they live alone with the housekeeper, Mrs Grose.

The composition, as well as the shot scales and camera angles help to give the impression that Miss Giddens is being controlled.
