The narrational games in AN ANDALUSIAN DOG

Luis Buñuel made his first film, An Andalusian Dog, in 1929, towards the end of the silent movie era. With this short film, he began to combine his love of playful storytelling and cinematic narration.

Buñuel’s original approach to title cards, ellipses and cuts between shots and sequences gives rise to unexpected associations, which doubtless goes to explain why the Surrealists adopted him.
