The voice goes from off-screen to in-screen and turns out to be a recorded on-the-air voice. The characters are tricked by a technological ploy : the editing reveals that the voice threatening them from behind the curtain is a recording. But the revelation that the voice has no human presence seems to make it even more threatening (the pistol shots did not stop the tape recorder).
