In this excerpt, the viewer sees … for the aviator’s voice:

We first hear the aviator at the place where he is being interviewed, then his voice is heard on the radio by the woman to whom he sends his message of embittered love. Yet, Renoir chooses not to emphasise the on-the-air effect: the journalist’s voice is the same both at the airport and in the boudoir. Each time, we are transported to the interview scene as if the two lovers, despite their distance, are closely tied together by the radio waves.
